Novell UPS.NLM does not support UPS monitoring via the serial port. Your options are summarized in the following "Table of Contents." 1 - SS keycard with UPS monitoring 2 - Disk coprocessor board (37 pin version) DCB 3 - Novell UPS monitoring board 4 - PS/2 compatible mouse port 5 - Third Party Software for Serial Port Monitoring 1 - SS keycard with UPS monitoring ---------------------------------- Jumper 1 (JMP1): set to the S2 position, indicating that closed contacts will signify a Low Battery condition. Jumper 5 (JMP5): set to the S10 position, indication that closed contacts will signify an Inverter On condition. All other jumpers should remain in their default positions. For more information, refer to the "Novell SFT/Advanced Netware 286 Manual," page 2-22, or the appropriate Netware 386 manual. 2 - Disk coprocessor board (37 pin version) DCB ----------------------------------------------- Select jumper position S-18 indicating that closed contacts will signify a Low Battery condition. Deltec, Topaz, Toshiba, Exide, IPM, Sola, and many other UPS vendors use PowerMon Software. Best can use PowerMon, but you'll get advanced functions by using Best's "CheckUPS/II." PowerMon Software SEC - Systems Enhancement Corp. Chesterfield, MO 314-532-2855 PowerMon is a very simple implementation of relay monitoring. The relays change status of the COM port, and PowerMon interprets these signals as triggers for messages and shutdown scripts. If you want interactive UPS monitoring, diagnostics, charts and graphs, and so on, move up to CheckUPS/II NLM. CheckUPS/II goes beyong simple relays, and uses a fully asyncronous interface with the UPS to read the actual voltage, current, runtime, etc. CheckUPS/II for Novell is a complete client/server power management package, and unique in the industry.
